SARDINE RUN 2009
Every year during the month of May to July the largest migration of fish on earth takes place on the eastern coast of South Africa.
The sardines - Sardinops sagax - move from the Eastern Cape to the coast of Kwazulu Natal, attracting a huge variety of predators, which feed on them.
The unique opportunity to view either by diving or boat based thousands of Copper Sharks, Dusky Sharks, Black tip Sharks, and Spinner Sharks, tens of thousands of Common Dolphins, and Bottlenose Dolphins, not to mention, more than a hundred thousand Cape Gannets.
Also large numbers of breaching Humpback Whales are to be seen among visiting Bryde Whales, Cape Fur Seals and Penguins.
For the marine & nature enthusiast, this is one event that ranks as the very, very best in your lifetime
